Budgerigars are the most popular pet birds in Japan. They are said to live in the harshest environment in the world. Budgerigars are opportunistic breeders, meaning they do not have a regular breeding season. The trigger for breeding is rainfall. When it rains and the arid land gets moisturized, the budgerigars start breeding to seize the moment. (Near Boulia, Australia, September 2022)
