ミネソタ州TRCにて、治療のために連れてこられたアメリカハクトウワしです。保定には、イーグル・グラッバーという資格が必要です。足の鋭い爪と嘴から体を守るため、皮手袋と上半身を革製のプロテクターで保護します。写真ではわかりませんが、目を保護するための、ゴーグルも着用します。

In March 2004, at the TRC in Minnesota, this bald eagle had been brought in for treatment. Handling an eagle requires a certified “eagle grabber,” and to protect yourself from those sharp talons and that powerful beak, you wear heavy leather gloves and a leather chest protector. You can’t see it in the photo, but we also wore goggles to protect our eyes.

In March 2004, at the TRC in Minnesota, we were getting ready for the orthopedic surgery lab, and the instructors were giving a hands‑on demonstration before we started. Everyone was gathered around the table, watching closely as they walked us through the techniques and the tools we’d be using. The room had that mix of tension and excitement you get right before a real practical session, and you could feel everyone shifting into “training mode.”
